In a new concept we are asking some of Manchester's great and good to tell us about their love of film and how it has impacted their life. We call it MoviesnMe.
First up was Mr Movie himself, Rob Ellis. He in turn nominated no other than The Mancoolian Lawyer of the year (2018), Steve Kuncewicz from group sponsors, BLM Law.
We assure you there were no bribes involved in the selection process....
Tell us a bit about you:
I’m an IP and Media Lawyer, specialising in issues involving social media, brands, reputation and content. How’s THAT for an Elevator Pitch?! Wait, don’t answer that…
What is your first movie memory?
Either “The Empire Strikes Back” or “Superman 2“– still a little bit afraid of Terence Stamp every time he shouts, “KNEEL BEFORE ZOD!!!”.
If your life was a movie, who would play you?
Arnold Schwarzenegger, Jessica Chastain or Samuel L. Jackson.
What’s your favourite movie of all time?
Still and always “The Empire Strikes Back”; the absolute epitome of complex and intelligent blockbuster film-making and proof positive that a sequel really CAN surpass its predecessor (as long as you don’t let George Lucas direct it), but close on its heels has to be “The Dark Knight”, for the main reason that it took my favourite fictional character deadly seriously, along with his (arguably) two best villains.
Recommend a movie for us to watch on the big screen?
“Star Wars: The Last Jedi”; for the first time in the best part of 40 years we don’t know what’s coming next from the Star Wars saga, and that’s a very good thing. I can’t wait for “Avengers: Infinity War”, just to see if Marvel have pulled it off and to figure out if Peter Dinklage is playing Pip The Troll (look it up, Geeks).
(FnF: You only have to wait until May 2 to watch Avengers: Infinity War with us. Here is the link to book, yes we know it's not subtle, but what's your point, you're clicking aren't you? BOOK HERE)
There are a lot of bad movies out there. So, which character do you think you could play better than the originally casted actor did?
Every character in “Battlefield Earth”, and Sally in “When Harry Met Sally”. Oh, and “Paddington”.
(FnF: We would LOVE to see you re-enact the restaurant scene by Sally… perhaps a FoodnFilm Classic night?)
Has a movie inspired you in your work in any way?
I refer to Batman in every presentation I’ve ever given, but otherwise Glengarry Glen Ross has been a bit of an inspiration, probably for all the wrong reasons. I clearly need to get a better watch… ~ABC
You must cast a film character as your business partner. Go?!
Steve Carell as Mike Henderson, Michael Fassbender as Steve Jobs, Chris Hemsworth as Danny Varney and Brigitte Neilsen as Rebecca Young.
Use a movie title to describe your business?
“It’s A Wonderful Life” or “The Firm”.
It’s the snowball effect- recommend someone who you’d like to see do MoviesnMe?
Mike Henderson and Paul Barnes – this should be something to see…
